Description

This antique polarimeter was manufactured by Steindorff & Co. in Berlin between 1910 and 1920. It was used to measure the concentration of liquids, particularly sugar solutions, by observing the rotation of polarized light. The instrument features a painted brass body mounted on a sturdy cast iron stand. The design includes a distinctive orange measuring dial and a precise focusing mechanism. Steindorff & Co., founded in 1879, was a renowned maker of high-quality scientific instruments.
